education community since 1996, Internet2 promotes the missions of its
members by providing both leading-edge network capabilities and unique
partnership opportunities that together facilitate the development,
deployment and use of revolutionary Internet technologies.
By bringing research and academia together with technology leaders from
industry, government and the international community, Internet2 promotes
collaboration and innovation that has a fundamental impact on the future of
the Internet.
LONI
The Louisiana Optical Network Initiative, or
LONI,
is a state-of-the-art, fiber optics network that runs throughout Louisiana,
and connects Louisiana and Mississippi research universities to one another
as well as
National
LambdaRail
and Internet2. LONI connects Louisiana's major research universities –
allowing greater collaboration on research that produces results faster and
with greater accuracy. LONI provides Louisiana researchers with one of the
most advanced optical networks in the country and the most powerful
distributed supercomputer resources available to any academic community.
National LambdaRail
National LambdaRail is advancing the research, clinical, and educational
goals of members and other institutions by establishing and maintaining a
unique nationwide network infrastructure that is owned and controlled by the
U.S. research community. Ownership of the underlying optical infrastructure
ensures the research community unprecedented control and flexibility in
meeting the requirements of the most advanced network applications and
providing the resources demanded by cutting-edge network research.
Great Plains Network
The Great
Plains Network is a consortium of universities in the mid-western states,
dedicated to supporting research and education through the use of advanced
networking technology.
OneNet
OneNet is a comprehensive network unlike any other in the country -
utilizing fiber optics and wireless technologies to transmit video, voice
and data throughout Oklahoma, the nation and the world. OneNet is not a
state-owned utility, but rather a state-led partnership among
telecommunications companies, equipment manufacturers and service providers.
OneNet's state-of-the-art technology and dedicated staff currently provide
high-speed communications to a variety of Oklahoma entities such as: public
and vocational-technical schools; colleges and universities; public
libraries; local, tribal, state and federal governments; court systems;
rural health care delivery systems; and programs engaged in research.
