What is The Quilt Consortium Program with VMware?
Beginning at 10:00 AM CDT today, ARE-ON has gone live with the Indiana University GlobalNOC as ARE-ON's provider for its Network Operations Center help desk and monitoring functions. The GlobalNOC provides ARE-ON with a Tier 1 Help Desk through its dual network operations centers located in Indianapolis and Bloomington, IN. In addition, the GlobalNOC provides and supports a wide variety of network network monitoring and management tools that network engineers within ARE-ON and the GlobalNOC will be able to more proactively monitor the ARE-ON network and respond to issues that might cause service interruptions to ARE-ON’s members and customers.
The University of Arkansas will use a National Science Foundation grant to upgrade its campus connection to the Arkansas Research and Education Optical Network, better known as ARE-ON, and to the Internet2 national research and education network, the school announced Tuesday, December 9, 2014. ARE-ON is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as a member of The Quilt, which is the national coalition of advanced regional networks for research and education, representing near three dozen R&E networks across the country. Through its membership in The Quilt, ARE-ON adds its voice to the national community of our network peer organizations, as well as to participate in initiatives that provide real value to our member institutions. The Quilt provides a great platform for dialogue and consensus building regarding national policy affecting our states and networking organizations. In addition, The Quilt sponsors competitively bid and nationally negotiated purchasing agreements through which its Authorized Buyers are able to purchase such services as commodity Internet service.
